Am not given the option to start up in Safe Mode.

I had already created the Installation Media disc and tried booting up with it in the PC; however the message to get to the rescue and recovery environment, press F11 appears… but then it doesn't respond to that, or any other F key from that point.

I appreciate your help!

We suggest contacting your device's manufacturer for the latest BIOS version available. After getting the latest version, check again to see if the issue would still persist.

Thank you.

To get into the Windows 10 Recovery Environment:

Start your Laptop, then just after the Manufacturers logo disappears and Windows 10 tries to boot, press and hold the power button down for 5 - 10 seconds to perform a hard shut down

Do this Twice

On the third boot attempt, Windows will boot into the Windows 10 Repair Environment, from there you can access Startup Recovery, Safe Mode, Command Prompt . . . etc.

Go to Troubleshoot - Advanced options - System Restore and see if you have a recent restore point you can revert back to

If no Restore point, go to Troubleshoot - Advanced options - Startup Repair, let it run and see if your System Boots

If not, go to Troubleshoot - Advanced options - Safe Mode and backup your data

Finally if all else fails, go to Troubleshoot - Advanced options - Reset this PC, choose to keep your files and apps

I no longer get the Lenovo logo; now I get the boot text... which shows "Phoenix BIOS 4.0 Release 6.1"

Tried holding the Off button, twice, after the initial text, and after "mouse initialization"; nothing changed.

If I interrupt with the Enter key, it shows the Startup Interrupt Menu, listing "Esc to resume normal startup" "F1 to enter BIOS Setup Utility", "F11 to diagnose hardware or recover your system" and F12 to choose a temporary startup device.

F11 takes me back to the flashing underscore, and nowhere to recover the system.

F1 takes me to -Config, -Date/Time, -Security, -Startup, -Restart or HDD diagnostic program.

Interestingly, that same page shows BIOS version 2.05 (80ET65WW), dated 2013-03-25, not the Phoenix BIOS.

The HDD diagnostic takes a while to run, but shows no problems.

So I probably have to try and get Lenono's help on the BIOS; will that be something I can copy to a disc that will write itself into the laptop?

Thanks!

OK, your next best option is to try and repair your system from Windows 10 Installation Media

If you do not have Windows 10 Installation Media Click HERE  to download the Media Creation Tool (Click on Download Tool Now), with that you can download the latest Windows 10 ISO (Choose 'Create Installation Media for another PC'), create Installation media on either a Flash Drive (min 4GB) or DVD

Then, Boot your PC from the Installation Media you just created (change Boot Order in your BIOS)

At the bottom right there will be an option to repair Windows on the first or second screen . . .

No luck... it sounded like it tried, but still the blinking underscore.

I've messed around with the order so much, is this correct to boot from the DVD:

1) USB CDROM:

2) USB FDD:

3) ATAPI CD0: HL-DT-STDVDRAM GT30N-(S2)

4) ATA HDD0: ST9500420AS-(S1)

5) PCI LAN: Realtek Boot Agent

6) -USB HDD

Sorry for the stupid questions, but I'm digging into this way beyond my understanding!

Did you create a bootable DVD from the ISO?

You cannot just copy the ISO onto the DVD, it will not boot . . .

If you are using the internal DVD drive, you need to move HTAPI CD0: HL-DT-STDVDRAM GT30N-(S2) to the top

The blinking underscore normally means your system is being directed to boot in such a way the process cannot be completed.

If you can get into the bios, make sure the Windows Boot Manger (if UEFI) is the primary boot device, and not a drive.  Edit:  If not UEFI then you would need the actual drive set as primary boot device.

If some type of OS install was attempted, what was it?

If any settings in the Bios were changed, what were they?

Am downloading/saving it again; when I burn it to the disc, how do I make sure it's bootable?
